Last year I was asked by Sam Coomes to join Portland Money Movers, a group of activists and musicians moving their money out of corporate banks and into community credit unions. I was somewhat reluctant to take the plunge, knowing that banking while on tour is an essential part of getting business done. However, I found a credit union that is part of the CU Service Network, and uses SHARED BRANCHING with the CU Network. This means that while on tour I can find another credit union that is a CU Service Member (swirl icon) and make a deposit or withdrawl to my own credit union. You need to have your credit union name, account number and your ID with you. It’s worked beautifully in both North Carolina and in Manhattan, where I easily deposited checks to my account. So score one for both community credit unions and independent musicians!
